Connecting to a VPN Using the Commandline in OSX

In an attempt to get myself downloading updates for L4D2 on my Mac at home, I wanted to get my VPN connection running so that I could use the built-in Screen Sharing feature to start those downloads. Unfortunately there’s not a straightforward way to actually do that!
Thankfully I managed to find a blog post out on the webs detailing how this can be done with OSAscript: Connecting to VPN via Command Line in OS X (Snow Leopard)
Of course in doing this I realized I didn’t set up the VPN on my home computer so the effort is somewhat wasted, but it’s all set for next time and I am sure would be helpful to others in the future!
